Be a Friend Not a Bully

Is bullying happening to you? If so, you must read on. I have experienced bullying before, so I understand how you feel. I hope you follow my advice and the bullying that’s happening to you will stop.

Telling someone

No matter what age you are, it’s always good to tell someone about bullying, even if it’s a friend a teacher (if you are in school) or a parent. Even if it’s just a small thing, because sometimes the small things build up to really big things. Once you have told someone that bullying is happening to you, then you need to explain in detail exactly what happened so they know the whole story. It’s like a puzzle – you need all the pieces to complete it.

Think about it

When the bullying is happening, you need to think inside your head and say “I shouldn’t listen to them – they just don’t like that I am kind and amazing, but other people do”. Sometimes you need to reflect on what’s been happening. I like to find a quiet spot in my house to think and realise that they are not worth my time and that I need to ignore them the best I can. I know it’s easier said than done, but I managed to do it with some practice, so I know that you can do it too. Make sure you practice often.

Flashbacks

Sometimes I get flashbacks of when the bullying was going on. It makes me feel very upset, but I have now realised that when I start to feel emotional, or see the memories flood into my head I get ready to push the bad thoughts away and think of good thoughts like going on holiday or seeing my friends. It takes a couple times to get it right, but I know you will get the hang of it.

Final tips:

  • Tell someone about what’s going on
  • It’s not your fault – remember that
  • Take time to reflect
  • Don’t let it get to you

I look forward to seeing your comments in my next article hope you take my advice – it really helped me.
